Moon Rocks is a dimensional stoneware glaze designed to create dramatic, raised texture effects. Stir well before use and apply 3-6 coats to greenware or stoneware bisque, alternating brush directions with each coat. Allow each layer to lose its glossy sheen before applying the next. Continue building layers until hairline cracking develops, then handle the piece with care before firing. Heavier application will produce a more pronounced textured surface.
Moon Rocks may be layered with other Moon Rocks colors to create unique visual effects; apply 1-2 coats of each color, though additional coats will increase the puffed texture. The glaze can also be applied over Underglazes and Stoneware Engobes. For best results, bisque-fire underglazes or engobes to cone 04 before applying Moon Rocks to improve adhesion.
Moon Rocks may develop increased texture and color changes at higher temperatures. Because clay body, glaze thickness, firing schedules, temperatures, and layering techniques can significantly impact the final result, testing is recommended. Moon Rocks is AP certified, but not suitable for dinnerware surfaces due to the texture.
